RITUALS.
Rituals are a huge part of what makes a wedding ceremony special. But how do you choose the perfect ritual for your ceremony?
I’ve put together a list of Rituals below. Have a read through and let me know if you connect with any.
1. The Vow Exchange Ritual -
Other than the legal vows you may chose to exchange personal vows to each other. I have a Guide to help you with this. Here.
2. The Ring Exchange -
We all know this one. Can always accompany with a commitment to each other.
3. The Candle-Lighting -
Often included in Christian, Catholic and other religious wedding ceremonies. The ritual involves the you both lighting a common candle from two individual candles, symbolising your union.
4. The Hand- Fasting Ritual or "Tying the Knot" -
A 2000 year old ancient Celtic Tradition. Standing face to face, as I or a family member binds your hands with a special cord or ribbon. It Symbolises your commitment to each other.
5. Parents blessing -
You may choose for your parents blessing as an alternative. Your parents are asked to stand during the ceremony and give permission for their marriage.
6. The Sand Ceremony -
Similar to the candle lighting ceremony mentioned above, the sand-pouring ritual finds you both pouring sand from two individual containers into a single vase. The Sand ceremony can also involve other family members symbolising bringing together two families. This is a great option if you have children!
7. The Family Vows -
State a Family Promise or family Vow. Can also exchange a piece of jewellery, such as a family ring. etc
8. Acknowledge of Country -
Usually an ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ is sufficient, however if indigenous people are present, it may be appropriate to include a ‘Welcome to Country’.
9. The Ring-Warming Ritual -
Before the rings are exchanged, they're passed around to your guests to be "warmed up". Your guests will hold the rings in their hands for a moment and sets an intention or wish for the you and your marriage.
10. The Shot Ritual -
MY FAVOURITE. Not for everyone but if you’re up for it. Each guest will take a shot of your favourite spirit. Can of course be a bottle of beer or a glass of bubbles. Your guest will cheers and send you well-wishes.
